Unlike many other national parks, Arusha is one of the few places in northern Tanzania where you’ll likely encounter large troops of black-and-white colobus monkeys gracefully moving through the forest canopy. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your comfortable lodge located on or near the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The cooler climate of the highlands provides a refreshing change after several days on the Serengeti plains. Rise early for breakfast before descending approximately 600 meters into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s largest intact volcanic calderas and one of Tanzania’s most famous safari destinations. Often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the crater offers one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
